Gallipoli Medical Research (GMR) is a forward-thinking not-for-profit dedicated to advancing medical research for veterans and conducting clinical trials for the general public. With over 50 passionate employees, the organisation has a strong legacy in research and clinical trials, yet needed a modern, customer-centric digital makeover to stay ahead in today’s competitive digital marketing landscape.
The Challenge
As a charity, Gallipoli Medical Research (GMR) needed to evolve its digital environment to support its long-term growth and mission. Over time, various technologies had been introduced without a clear integration strategy, resulting in a fragmented and inefficient ecosystem. This lack of cohesion led to outdated processes, siloed systems, and inconsistent data management.
Marketing efforts remained rooted in traditional methods, limiting digital engagement, data-driven decision-making, and brand visibility. Challenges such as disconnected social media strategies, inefficient internal communications, and a lack of streamlined workflows hindered operational effectiveness. To future-proof its operations and align with best practices for 2025, GMR required a strategic digital transformation—one that would enhance collaboration, improve efficiency, and create a seamless, integrated digital foundation for both marketing and internal processes.
Objectives
Under the guidance of the newly appointed CEO, Miriam Kent, GMR’s primary goal when engaging my services was to elevate both the external and internal digital spaces—enhancing brand perception, streamlining operations, and fostering a customer-centric culture in their digital spaces. The aim was to transform their digital marketing and operational processes to position Gallipoli Medical Research as a leader in the veteran space through a well-considered digital marketing approach.
Strategy and Approach
I began with an extensive competitor analysis to benchmark GMRs digital footprint against industry standards. This was followed by a detailed technical review and gap analysis, which uncovered significant opportunities in platform integration, security, and
process optimisation. Leveraging these insights, a robust 12-month strategy was crafted, focused on digital transformation and customer-centric innovation. This strategy not only secured board-level funding but also paved the way for organisational restructuring — hiring new talent and realigning roles to better support the new digital vision. An external agency specialising in UX was brought on board to redesign the website, while I led the implementation of an advanced CRM, EDM, and targeted advertising campaigns.
